Roman Fuzaylov

Roman Fuzaylov has over 18 years of experience as an investment professional and has been investing in public markets across Africa since 2007. Prior to joining Helios to help co-lead the Seven Rivers Fund, Roman spent sixteen years with Prince Street Capital, an emerging and frontier markets investment firm headquartered in New York and Singapore. Joining in 2006 as a junior analyst, Roman helped cover multiple geographies across EM, eventually narrowing his focus to EMEA (Emerging Europe, Middle East, and Africa). Over time, Roman became a senior analyst and a partner at the firm. In his last four years at Prince Street, Roman managed the Tamerlane Fund, a regional long/short mandate focused on Emerging Europe, Middle East, and Africa. Prior to joining Prince Street, Roman earned an undergraduate degree from the NYU Stern School of Business, graduating with honors with a degree in Finance in 2006. Roman originally hails from Uzbekistan and is fluent in Russian.

Roman adds two decades of experience investing in public markets across both EM and frontier markets. Having come from a distant frontier market himself (Uzbekistan), he has always been passionate about understanding what makes these places tick. That intellectual curiosity has animated his interest in the markets and the companies Helios invests in.

Roman loves the culture at Helios. The firm has created a collegial environment that rewards intellectual rigor, discipline, and hard work, but also prizes camaraderie and collaboration. As a region, Africa is uniquely starved of equity capital, especially in public markets. Helios Seven Rivers is working to help right that imbalance, with all the positive knock-on effects that flow from that.

Outside of work, Roman enjoys traveling and meeting new people. As a father of three small children, he now finds joy in the adventures of parenting, which are equally rewarding.
