Mark Hartmann is a seasoned investment professional with over 32 years of experience across private equity, venture capital, lending, and real estate, with a focus on frontier and emerging markets. He has played a leading role in executing over $3 billion of transactions across the US, Latin America, Europe, and Africa.

Currently, Mark is the principal of MH Advisory Services LLC, a US-registered investment advisor that serves as a sub-advisor to Helios Investment Partners LLP, the largest Africa-focused private equity firm, managing ~$3 billion in funds. As a senior advisor to Helios and a member of its Investment Committee, Mark brings unparalleled insights and expertise to identifying and structuring investments, mitigating risks, and maximizing value creation.

Mark has held senior leadership roles throughout his career, including as a Partner at Helios (2008–2014), a Managing Director at TPG Capital’s Latin American affiliate, and the founder of SF Capital Partners. Additionally, he has advised leading real estate firms such as SKS Investments and Proximity Parks and previously served as an independent investment committee member for the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation’s Strategic Investment Fund (2017–2022). From 2012-2017, he was a lecturer at the Stanford Graduate School of Business, where he co-developed and co-taught a course on frontier markets private equity (FIN 381).

A dual citizen of the US and Brazil, Mark holds an M.Sc. in International Finance and Accounting from The London School of Economics and a B.S. in Finance from American University, where he graduated summa cum laude. Fluent in Spanish and Portuguese, Mark remains deeply connected to global markets and cultures.

Outside of work, Mark is an ocean enthusiast, spending time surfing, kite-surfing, paddleboarding, and spear-fishing. He is also dedicated to philanthropy as the founder of the Aloha Award, a nonprofit supporting individuals in the global ocean sports community who protect the oceans and leverage their healing power through therapy programs.
